The Story

  • This open-collar shirt is crafted from traditional Matsusaka Momen cloth, a textile designated as Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. Worn by Edo-period merchants and originating in the Matsusaka region of Mie Prefecture, the fabric is recognized for its fine-intricately woven striped pattern. The cloth is dyed using the traditional kasezome technique, in which yarns are hand-dyed with natural indigo before weaving, resulting in natural tonal variations and deep dye penetration. The shirt is finished with an open collar, mother-of-pearl buttons, and a straight hem.
