The Story

  • The John Lofgren Duke Ropers are classic pull-on boots inspired by early 20th century workwear and equestrian footwear. Built with John Lofgren’s meticulous attention to detail, the boots are handcrafted in Japan using carefully sourced materials from Japan and the USA. The uppers are made from Horween Tannery’s Natural Chromexcel roughout leather, flipped to showcase the nap-textured suede side. Soft to the touch, the leather will gradually develop a rich patina with continued wear, developing a character reflecting personal wear patterns. The Roper design pays homage to the Duke of Wellington, who commissioned a modified Hessian-style military boot that later evolved into the classic pull-on silhouette worn by cowboys, ranchers, and horsemen around the world.

    • Built on the John Lofgren 170 Last (D-width)
    • Horween Chromexcel roughout leather uppers
    • Japanese steel shank
    • Made in USA Vibram #269 soles and #700 heels
    • Embossed padded leather heel pad
    • 10" shaft height, 1.25" heel
    • Goodyear welt construction using USA-made storm welts
    • Handcrafted in Japan
    • Lot No. LK-030
  • The John Lofgren 170 last has a snug forefoot to keep the foot secure without laces and a roomy heel for easy pull-on/pull-off. We recommend taking a half size (0.5) smaller than your Brannock size. Please email us at sales@blueowl.us for an individual sizing recommendation.
  • Originally from California, John Lofgren developed a passion for vintage fashion that eventually led him to Japan, where he established the Honky Tonk Company (H.T.C.) in 2000. Inspired by the quality and craftsmanship of vintage garments and footwear, Lofgren began producing his own line of meticulously crafted products. Drawing from classic American and military styles, every John Lofgren piece is manufactured exclusively in Japan using premium materials and traditional construction methods.
